July 27th Teton Dirt Report

July 24th Trail Update
Week # 13 of the MBT Trail Crew Season!
Time flies when you’re digging in the dirt. Yet, another productive week on the trails and a bit of moisture to keep the dust down. Happy Hour Trail is now completed and currently riding as a great out and back to the Trail Cr. bridge site (bridge coming soon). The crew was also able to tick off a few maintenance objectives as well as dig some holes in the Big Holes for new signage.
Here’s how the crew’s week broke down:
- Monday: With a morning in the office, Chris wrote the weekly report, scheduled projects and continued planning for some trail maintenance work in the Palisades. In the afternoon, he biked up Gove Cr. to dig a few drains on the Crest and to stash tools for installing signage.
- Tuesday: The crew spent the day out on Happy Hour with pole saws to clear high branches and brush that hang into the trail corridor. They finished up the day with a bit of hand tool finish work on the tread. The trail is almost complete!
- Wednesday: The whole crew pulled away from the Mike Harris area to complete a short reroute on Corral Cr., moving an eroded early season wet area onto the hillside. The crew also installed some new drainage and cleared existing drains.
- Thursday: The crew splits up to divide and conquer. Eric and Stacy made their way out to Grumpy’s for some needed brush back maintenance. Alec and Chris, helping the Forest Service with a Big Hole sign project, prepared carsonite and installed 5 signposts in the Grove, Drake, Corral and Red Cr. area.
- Friday: Chris spent the morning retrieving the crew’s extensive tool cache on Happy Hour and evaluating a potential bridge location in Pole Canyon. After a few weeks of digging, the tools receive a fresh sharpening. Local trail ambassador Nate Carey also spent about 4 hours clearing brush on Rush Hour. Thanks Nate!
