Red Creek Loop | Mountain Bike the Tetons

Red Creek Loop

A beautifully secluded trail in picture perfect backcountry. The numerous creek crossings offer some relief on a hot summer day.

Access

This ride is accessed from the Spooky trailhead on Pine Creek Pass (Hwy 31) [Directions to trailhead from Victor, ID]

Directions

Park at the Spooky trailhead and climb Spooky to the junction with Corral Creek (1.2 mi). From there take a right unto Corral Creek and continue until you’ve reached the junction of Corral Creek and Red Creek, where you’ll take a left and make one last short climb to the summit of Red Creek (2.9 mi). At this point, take a break, drop your seat post, and open up the suspension. The next half a mile or so is a fast descent down a washed out bobsled track. At the bottom of this look for a hard left to continue on Red Creek (3.5 mi). Red Creek is technically all downhill but don’t expect to coast it out. There are a few hard climbs, several creek crossings that vary in depth depending on the time of year, and a couple miles of technical trail that has the tendency to be a bit overgrown. Right after the last of those creek crossings you’ll hit a two-track/ATV trail known as the Sheep Herder trail (5.9 mi). Take a left there, climb a short ways, and then get ready for a roller coaster ride down a fast section of ATV trail crammed full of knee to thigh high water bars. Keep an eye out for the other end of Corral Creek on your left (6.6 mi). Hang a left there and climb back up a mellow grade until you reach the junction with Spooky (8 mi). Take a right onto Spooky and cruise back to the car.
