This ride is accessed from the Horseshoe Canyon South Fork Trailhead on Old Horseshoe Road [Directions to trailhead from Driggs, ID]. If shuttling to eliminate the road ride, park at the Mahogany Creek trailhead [Directions to trailhead from Driggs, ID].
If riding as a loop you can park at Mahogany Creek trailhead, Horseshoe Canyon Southfork trailhead, or anywhere in between the two. Directions will start at the Horseshoe Canyon Southfork Trailhead. Ride over the bridge across from the parking area and climb and keep climbing until you reach the saddle between Horseshoe Canyon and Mahogany Creek (4.5 mi). If the bugs aren’t biting, take a break, you’ll probably need one. Afterwards, drop into Mahogany, directly across the saddle from Horseshoe, and hold on tight. The next couple miles are rugged and technical, full of rocks and root drops and a stream crossing or two. At the the end of the singletrack (7.75 mi), you’ll meet up with Forest Rd 236 which you’ll stay on until it becomes W 3000 S and ends at S 5000 W aka Cedron Rd (10.8 mi). Hang a left at this intersection and continue until you reach the large curve where Cedron turns into Bates (13.6 mi) where you’ll take a left and then a right at the next big curve onto N 7000 W (15.6 mi). Take a left on W 1000 N (16.6 mi), continue for a half mile and take a left on Forest Road 235 aka Old Horseshoe Canyon Road and keep going until you’re back at the trailhead and your rig (20.1 mi). Hopefully you left a cooler with some frosty beverages in the truck. Otherwise, head back to Driggs and on up to the 3rd floor of the Colter building (NW corner of the intersection w/Main St) for a craft beer and a gourmet pizza at Tatanka Tavern.
