What is the Teton Region Composite Team?
We welcome riders from Jackson Hole and Teton Valley in grades 6-12 to join the team and ride with us. We compete in the Idaho Cycling League against teams from across the state. The Idaho Cycling League is a fall league and the team races in September and October. Our coaches are volunteers, but in compliance with NICA standards, they are trained in first aid, concussion management, and complete a full background check before working with student athletes.
Our team’s philosophy is fun first. We focus on teaching students bike handling skills, proper trail etiquette and respect for one another. Racing is not mandatory to join the team! About 1/2 our riders race; we encourage riders who just want to practice with the team to join us.
What is the Idaho Cycling League?
The Idaho High School Cycling League works to establish and maintain safe, quality high school mountain bike programs. The League is responsible for establishing a climate that will:
- Provide students who have the desire to mountain bike with the coaching and camaraderie that will help them achieve both competitive and non-competitive cross-country mountain biking goals in a safe and enjoyable manner;
- Develop an awareness of what it is to be an amateur athlete that is both gracious and respectful to their community;
- Create an environment in which they may discover new friendships and find role models;
- Guide students towards learning new skills and disciplines, and spread the foundations of mountain bike racing across the U.S.;
- Foster a responsible attitude toward the use of trails and wilderness;
- Promote the value of cycling to our community as a mode of transportation and as a life long sport.
Pre-season for the 2017 team begins on April 1, 2017. However, our first 2 team events, will be team info and registration meetings on May 4th 6pm in Jackson at the Jackson Hole Community School and May 9th 6pm in Teton Valley at the Senior Center in Driggs.
Pre-season practices begin on June 3. We will practice every Saturday, 9:00am-11:00am until July. We will alternate between Jackson Hole and Teton Valley for these pre-season Saturday morning practices.
In season for the Team is July through October. We practice 3 times per week on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. If you, your son, or daughter would like to join the team, please contact Team Director Amanda Carey directly at email@example.com or the head coach, Nate Carey, at firstname.lastname@example.org. The team will continue recruiting and doing outreach for new team members in early spring, 2017.
The fee to register for both the club team and race team format is $200 per student-athlete for the season. Students must also register and pay additional fees to the Idaho Cycling League. Those fees total $50. The students-athletes that race should expect to pay an entry fee of $25 per race they choose to attend. There are 5 races in the 2017 season. The team and coaches do not provide transportationParents and the student-athletes are responsible for travel to/from races.
These annual fees include the cost of your team cycling jersey.
Fees support team equipment, gas money for our volunteer coaches to travel to races, the team registration and insurance fees to NICA/Idaho League.
