I mentioned this race a few posts back but wanted to get more details and a map of the course posted on here. I also realized that the last time we rode this we missed a couple of sections. This will be the first year of the race, being sponsored by Grand Targhee, TVTAP, a slew of other local businesses, and a couple of big names like SRAM and FOX, as the main event for the final day of the 3rd annual Wydaho Mountain Bike Festival (July 27 – 29). The race will start on the Grand Traverse from the top of the lift and continue down Buffalo Drop to Sidewinder to the base area. From there you actually pedal back up the Powder Reserve Traverse until you get to the junction of Sticks & Stones. You then you ride back down Stick’s & Stones to the base area where you’ll start up Lightning Ridge. After you get to the top of Lightning Ridge you’ll pedal around the Lightning Loop trail before coming down Colter’s Revenge and Mill Creek. In my first post I failed to mention the climb up the PRT, the descent down lower Sticks & Stones, and the lap around Lightning Loop. I rode it all last night and found this adds quite a bit of distance, climbing, and descent to my original stats. In all the race is around 13 miles with a roughly 4,500′ of descent, and 1,300′ of ascent. Keep in mind that the Lightning Loop trail is still unfinished and several sections of this have to be hiked (for now), while other sections are extremely soft and slow pedaling. Also keep in mind that I rode this after working a full day and that I’m no racer so these times could still be way slow even once the trails are finished. Oh, and the re-route on Mill Creek is happening today so there will be a slight adjustment to the course from this map. I’ll try to get out for another lap after this weekend and will update everything once I do. For more info on the race visit: Wydaho Mountain Bike Fest or Grand Targhee. Edit: I rode the course again this afternoon. First of all, the Lightning Loop trail has come a long way over the weekend. The Snake River Mountain Bike Club came up and put in a ton of work, nearly completing it. There is still one short section that’s only flagged and all of the new trails up there could use some rain and some riding to pack them down a bit but you can ride the whole course now. The re-route on Mill Creek was also completed over the weekend. The new stuff actually adds nearly half a mile and a lot of fun turns to this trail. Again, it’s a little soft but not bad considering this was all cut in 2 days ago. I also updated the map and stats seen below. View Grand Targhee Super D Race Course – 7/9/2012 in a larger map.
