Just a couple of weeks left until the 4th annual Wydaho Rendezvous Mountain Bike Festival. This year it kicks off on Friday August 30th and runs through Monday September 2nd with four days of clinics, rides, races and events events. This time around Grand Targhee Resort will be hosting the festival along with several races including last year’s very popular Super D Race. The course last year was great but a lot of people thought it was more of an XC race than a Super D. The event and race organizers took that into consideration when planning this year’s course. They shaved 3 miles, 500′ of climbing and only gave up 400′ of descent from last years route for a new total of 10 miles, 800′ of climbing, and nearly 4,000′ of descent. Grand Traverse and Buffalo Drop will still be there but the grind of a climb up the PRT snowcat road and the XC lap around lightning loop didn’t make the cut. In their place is a really fast downhill on one of the resort’s newest trails, Bullwinkle. Construction of this trail began last summer and was only just completed in the last couple months. If you haven’t ridden it yet you probably should get on that. It’s wide enough to drive a truck down and loaded with rollers and overhead berms. It’s also definitely the smoothest, least technical trail on the hill which allows you to carry some serious speed. After taking Bullwinkle nearly to the base of the resort, there’s an easy climb up Lightning Ridge and then it’s all down from there. Ride Colter’s Escapeand Mill Creek to the bottom and the finish line at Teton Canyon Road. I’ve ridden the course a few times over the last couple weeks and have to say it’s going to be a really fun race. Want to see more? Check out the course preview video and the Google map below.
