In the past, if you wanted a new bike trail around the valley, you built one. But the mentality that it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission is shifting. Now with the support of the newly formed Mountain Bike Teton Valley, a chapter of the International Mountain Bike Association, trail users are taking a proactive approach. Instead of waiting for the Forest Service or constructing trails illegally, MBTV along with the Skyliners Motor Club are working to get feedback from all different kinds of backcountry trail users in an attempt to reopen the summer travel plan in the Teton Basin of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest.
MBTV will host the first in a series of open houses at each of the three local bike shops. First up is an open house at Peaked Sports on Saturday in conjunction with the gear and bike swap. Wolfe will be on hand with mapping expert, Rob Marin to answer questions and take suggestions on this “wish list” of trails.
